As we reported earlier this week, WWE Superstar Roman Reigns was recently named as a client by Richard Rodriguez, the former owner of a Miami gym and supplement store that was arrested in connection with a massive steroid distribution ring.
Rodriguez put out a video through YouTube “filmmaker” Jon Bravo, implication the Intercontinental Champion as well as other unnamed WWE performers and even major Hollywood actors like Mark Wahlberg. Reigns then released a statement through WWE dismissing these claims, and even went so far as to say he’s never met or even heard of Richard Rodriguez or his Wellness Fitness Nutrition company.

While discussing the situation in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer compared it to the 2007 raid of Signature Pharmacy in Orlando where several WWE stars were linked to prescription steroids. That list included Randy Orton, Edge, Booker T, John Morrison, William Regal and several others including the late Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit and Eddie “Umaga” Fatu.
The difference in these situations is that there was a paper trail directly implicating the WWE stars (and one office member) with Signature Pharmacy after it was raided by Florida law enforcement and the Albany district attorney opened an investigation. In this case, it’s just the word of a man in prison naming names against a popular WWE star who claims he’s never even met the guy. There doesn’t appear to be any paper trail, or any proof whatsoever, other than the list of names Rodriguez allegedly gave to the courts when he took a plea bargain.
Meltzer also noted that even if Reigns was somehow proven to be a part of this Miami steroid ring, the most likely outcome is that he’d simply be suspended by WWE for 60 days, as it would be his second violation of the Wellness Policy. The 2007 incident set a precedent that even though those performers weren’t all tested at the time, the evidence against them by the D.A. was enough to earn them a “strike”.
As of now, Roman Reigns is still pencilled in to defeat Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship in one of the main events at WrestleMania 34.
