FOX 5 out of Atlanta recently published a feature story on WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, and the 2017 health scare which resulted in The Nature Boy’s hospitalization and emergency surgery resulting in a prognosis which gave him only a 20% chance of survival.
You can watch the entire piece in the video below, and the following are some quotes from Flair and his fiancee Wendy Barlow.
On Flair’s drinking problem escalating following the death of his son Reid Flair:
“I mean my whole life, I never drank during the day. But at night, when I’m through working, yeah, I drank.”
“I didn’t start ‘day drinking’ until probably right before my son died,” Flair says. “And then, I really, after he passed away, it was 10 in the morning until 2 a.m. every day.”
‘I remember the night before his son passed away,” Wendy Barlow said. “We had dinner, and he said to me, he said, ‘Promise me you’ll take care of my father,’ and it was just like a premonition.”

On feeling lucky to be alive following surgery and his outlook nowadays:
“You have no idea,” Flair says. “You want to know something? I am preoccupied with dying, does that make sense to you? I think about it every day.”
Barlow added, “I see him very thankful, stronger in his faith and very at peace with himself. And I’m loving this. I’m loving every minute of it.”
