Following the announcement that he was having to retire from professional wrestling, Primate spoke with The Chronicle about having to leave the business and how close he was to signing for WWE. Below are some highlights of the interview.
Having to retire:
“It was earth-shattering news for me, I started in wrestling just four years ago and I’ve already achieved so much in such a short space of time. It’s been an absolute whirlwind but I don’t feel ready to give it up yet. Sadly, I have little choice.”
The reaction from fans:
“Man, that reaction blew me away (his retirement speech at Defiant) one of my biggest fears before I went out was that I’d make this announcement and everyone would just be like: ‘OK, whatever, bye’. But I need not have worried. As well as on the night, since then my Twitter has blown up. Messages from fans and colleagues sending me well-wishes.
How close he was to signing for WWE:
“I can’t tell you how frustrating it is.I feel I was so close to getting to the WWE. After my most recent try-out, William Regal told me I was doing everything right and to just keep doing what I was doing. I knew I was getting closer. That dream is no more now though. That’s so frustrating.”
