IMPACT Wrestling’s newest Hall Of Fame member, Abyss recently spoke with Busted Open Radio regarding his induction and more.
Finding out about the IMPACT HOF:
“It’s hard to describe, it was emotional, to say the least to me it’s a culmination of the last 17 years to be recognized by a company and the rest of the world for my body of work is a great feeling and it’s surreal. I had to pinch myself, I didn’t think it was going to happen and it’s happening so I’m on top of the world about it.”
Starting his career in wrestling:
“I graduated with my Master’s Degree in ’93 and I wanted to be the marketing guy, wrestling wasn’t the number one goal at the time. I listened to this radio commercial one day at work about a wrestling school so I went in my lunch break to this old beaten down gym, I threw everything I had into it. I gambled and it paid off, I am very proud of that and continued to wrestle on the indies until Dutch Mantell came around and hooked me up with Jeff who gave me a tryout match and hired me on the spot and I’ve been there ever since.”
On his loyalty to IMPACT:
“IMPACT to me is an was, it’s home. It’s where I started I spent practically my entire adult life there, this coming year I will be 50% of my adult life in the wrestling business. TNA gave me a chance when nobody else was biting at the time, to see the growth and be part of the growth, one of the reasons I never wanted to leave is that I was there since the beginning. We didn’t know what the future was at the start, I am so proud of what the company has done, there has been a lot of ups and downs but it’s a great company. We have struggled and really plowed through some obstacles along the way and it’s something I could never see myself leaving, I’m very proud of it.”
