NEW DAY’S NEW YEAR CELEBRATION
We kick off 2019 with the New Day, as the trio have a very important announcement to make with Xavier Woods revealing that all three men will be taking part in the Royal Rumble this year. Big E then attempted to do the classic Scott Steiner math promo, but he was thankfully stopped.
Kofi Kingston states they are going to win it and become the WWE Champion, but Xavier Woods then teases they could challenge for the Universal Championship, but he isn’t sure that guy would turn up. Woods then says they will no longer be devouring pancakes as the doctor has told them not to, but Big E clearly doesn’t agree and keeps stuffing his face.
Big E then sets up the opening match as Jeff Hardy is set to go one on one with Samoa Joe for the final spot in the main event number one contender’s match.
JEFF HARDY vs SAMOA JOE
Jeff Hardy immediately takes the fight to his rival, attacking the legs of Joe until the bigger man rolls outside of the ring in frustration at the situation.
Back from the break and Samoa Joe is now in control, throwing shots at Jeff in the corner but Jeff managed to get an elbow up before attempting to hit a Whisper In The Wind, but Joe pulls Hardy’s legs which sees him crash down into the tree of woe which Joe takes advantage of.
Out of nowhere Hardy catches Joe with a Twist Of Fate and he follows that up with a Swanton Bomb, but Joe wisely rolls to the outside to avoid being pinned. Hardy tries to attack him on the outside but Joe catches him in the Coquina Clutch and knocks him out, but Hardy makes the 10 count only to be put back in the submission until the official rings the bell.
Winner: Samoa Joe
BACKSTAGE SEGMENT
Vince and Shane McMahon are shown backstage and AJ Styles walks in, asking Vince if he is sure he wants to see him. He says he maybe he should apologize, but he won’t. He says if Vince wants the real AJ Styles then he should watch what happens tonight.
