Tony Khan recently appeared on Wrestling Observer Radio, where he talked about All Elite Wrestling. AEW’s President and Co-Founder gave the interview after the Double or Nothing rally held on February 7. Khan was asked about what he intends to do with different divisions within the company.
“I’m really excited about what we’re gonna do with the tag team division. I really think tag team wrestling has a chance to make a huge, huge comeback and I think we have a chance to be a really big part of it. The Young Bucks are one of the all-time great tag teams and we brought out The Best Friends, we’ve got SCU, Penta and Fenix and a lot more to come in terms of tag teams.”
This is certainly good news for fans of tag team wrestling, which has not always been featured as main event-level attractions in many established promotions.
But Khan did not stop there, as he also talked about his excitement over AEW’s women’s division.
“Our women’s division, I have compared it-and this is what I have told people and people have gotten really excited about this-to the WCW cruiserweight division, where you’ve got a division of workers and they’re gonna bring a really exciting, fast paced style to a national audience and people are gonna get excited about it. I think that similar to how the cruiserweight division had a big population of Luchadores, I think there are going to be a number of Joshi and performed from Japan and around in the world in our women’s division that are going to be giving it an international flavor.”
AEW does seem to be headed in the right direction, as they are attempting to build a solid foundation for these divisions. The women’s division in particular has been strengthened, thanks to the signings of Kylie Rae, Nyla Rose, Yuka Sakazaki and the legendary Aja Kong.
