Revolution Pro Wrestling in the UK has announced a tag team tournament taking place over the next six weeks, with the winning team earning an opportunity to not only make their New Japan Pro-Wrestling debut, but to challenge for the IWGP Tag Team Championships.
The first round of the tournament will feature eight teams competing on Sunday, August 4th at RPW Live at the Cockpit 44 in London, England. The following matches have been announced with one more still to come:
Gabriel Kidd & Shaun Jackson vs. Kenneth Halfpenny & Brendan WhiteAussie Open (Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher) vs. The Rascalz (Dez Xavier & Zach Wentz)Dan Maloney & MK McKinnan vs. Team White Wolf (A-Kid & Carlos Romo)
The second and semifinal round will go down on August 11th at RPW Live in Southampton 9 with a second event potentially available on Sunday August 18th at the RPW 7th Anniversary event if scheduling with the talent requires it. The finals will take place on Friday, August 30th at RPW Summer Sizzler.
The winner of the tournament will face off against the Guerrillas of Destiny for the IWGP Tag Team Championships on Saturday, August 31st at New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s first ever full event in the United Kingdom, NJPW Royal Kingdom.
Also confirmed for Royal Kingdom so far is IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada, IWGP Intercontinental Champion Tetsuya Naito, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kota Ibushi, Will Ospreay and Zack Sabre Jr.
