Paul Scholes is set to be appointed as Oldham’s new boss in his first managerial role, according to reports.
The Manchester United legend had been holding talks with Latics chiefs over the past week.
Oldham are looking to replace Frankie Bunn, who was sacked last month.
Scholes, who works as a pundit for BT Sport, was interviewed for the same job in October 2017.
But the club opted to appoint Richie Wellens, who oversaw their relegation to League Two last season.
Now, Oldham are 12th in England’s fourth tier, but just five points off a play-off place.
Scholes was in attendance for the Latics’ 2-1 defeat to Sol Campbell’s Macclesfield Town on Saturday.
And The Times report that the 44-year-old has agreed an 18-month deal to become their new manager.
Oldham caretaker boss Pete Wild has managed two wins from four league games and masterminded a shock FA Cup victory over Premier League side Fulham earlier this month.
Scholes, a former England midfielder, made 718 appearances for Manchester United and scored 155 goals from midfield.
