'Sancho is already a great player' – Dortmund starlet hailed by Delaney

Posted on March 1, 2019

A club colleague of the exciting 18-year-old England international is expecting big things from a talent being tipped to shine for club and country

Jadon Sancho is “a great player”, according to Borussia Dortmund team-mate Thomas Delaney, with the England starlet being tipped to be a “bright star in the future”.

At just 18 years of age, an exciting talent has enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence.

Few could have predicted that Sancho would tread such a career path when the decision was taken to leave Manchester City in 2017.

He has, however, gone on to establish himself at a side now topping the Bundesliga table, while also earning senior international recognition with his country.

There is even greater potential to be unlocked as well, with Delaney of the opinion that Sancho can reach the very top of the game if he continues on his current development curve.

The Danish midfielder told reporters of a highly-rated club colleague: “You can see straight away that he is a great player.

“He plays with a lot of joy – he is a very positive player.

“He doesn’t see boundaries, he sees opportunities, and you see that in his style of play. He is always seeking a challenge, always a one versus one or one versus two.

“I am sure he will be a bright star in the future.

“He is very relaxed as a person. There is big pressure at a club like Dortmund, but maybe he has come at the right moment where maybe there is not that expectation to win a trophy, but to build the team.

“From my own experience, a national team is a little bit different than playing league football, but he is performing at Dortmund, and that gives you every tool in the box to perform at international level.

“He is 18 years old, and it’s crazy to say that you expect so much of him to perform in the national team, but I am sure he will. If not now, then later, because he is such a big talent.”

Sancho, who made his England debut during a Nations League clash with Croatia in October, is back in the Three Lions squad for their upcoming fixtures.

Gareth Southgate’s side are set to take in friendly date with the United States on Thursday, before welcoming World Cup finalists Croatia to Wembley on Sunday.
