Greetings and salutations, boys and girls, and welcome to the first Rajah main page installment of the most prestigious countdown list of the year, the Rajah Forums Countdown of WWE’s Best Matches of 2014!
Now, many of you have never visited the forums that are connected to this wonderful haven of news and features before, and so you might be unfamiliar with this countdown. The idea is that at the end of the year, dozens of Rajah forum members submitted lists of the WWE matches that they thought were the best. After an exhaustive process of averaging and general mathiness, a top 25 list was composed and over the course of the next few weeks, it will be revealed one match at a time.
If you agree or disagree with the matches on this list, or just wish to give your thoughts on them in a rad place full of skateboarding dinosaurs and charming secret agents, then hop on down to the Rajah Forums, make yourself an account and join the party.
Now let’s get on with the next installment of the countdown…
NXT Women’s Championship
Charlotte vs. Natalya
The countdown begins with a match that defined the future of women’s wrestling in WWE and set the bar for what was to come, and that came in the unlikely package of Charlotte and Natalya. Natalya had been largely irrelevant up to this point and was finally getting a shot to showcase her abilities in a full match, whereas Charlotte was the rookie who was just starting to understand the ropes, not really proving herself to the fans yet. When these two met in the finals of the NXT Women’s Championship Tournament, though, it was obvious both were destined to immortalize their presence on the second ever NXT Supercard.
What resulted was one of the most passionate bouts of the year between two women trying to prove their selves and live up to the legacy of their family names. Ric Flair and Bret Hart being at ringside heightened the importance of this match as the ladies tore into each other in a game of one-upsmanship. While both Nattie and Charlotte looked great, this match revolved around Charlotte and her coming out party to let everyone know that she is quickly on her way to mastering the ring. When she goes on to become one of the most revered women in the business, I’m sure many will look back at this match as the night it all began.
