Boateng admits to 'interesting' PSG talks but vows to give his all for Bayern

Posted on March 1, 2019

The World Cup-winning defender appeared set to make a move to France at one stage this summer, but he will now be staying at the Allianz Arena

Jerome Boateng has admitted to holding “interesting” talks with Paris Saint-Germain, but has no complaints at having seen Bayern Munich block a move to France.

It appeared at one stage as though a switch to Parc des Princes was on the cards for the experienced defender.

After returning from a disappointing 2018 World Cup campaign with Germany, the 29-year-old saw interest in his services build steadily.

PSG were prepared to invest in a proven performer, with Boateng open to taking on a new challenge in Ligue 1.

He has now revealed how close he came to making a switch, telling WELT: “There were talks with Paris, that’s no secret.

“The project there was interesting, the talks with Thomas Tuchel were good.

“That does not mean that I’m not committed to Bayern anymore. I have big goals and will continue to do everything for the club. As I have always done.”

It has been suggested that PSG walked away from a deal after seeing Bayern raise their asking price.

The French giants were prepared to do business at terms which made sense to them, with Financial Fair Play regulations in mind, but could not justify a €50 million (£45m/$58m) spend.

A number of leading figures at Bayern have, as a result, expressed a belief that Boateng will be going nowhere before transfer windows across Europe slam shut on Friday.

That means that the 2014 World Cup winner will remain at the Allianz Arena and continue working under a contract that is due to run until 2021.
