The Secret Service reportedly gave notice to the Louisiana State Police about Trump’s visit to Baton Rouge on Friday afternoon, but the State Police superintendent told the publication that “we have not yet received any specific details of his agenda.”
Sources told The Advocate that there will be an official announcement after a venue is confirmed. Trump’s visit to the Pelican State is reportedly intended to support Louisiana State Treasurer John Kennedy (R) ahead of Saturday’s Senate runoff.
Kennedy, who’s considered the front-runner, will square off against Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell (D). If Kennedy wins, the Republican Party will boost its Senate ranks to 52 seats, while Democrats currently hold 48 seats.
Trump won Louisiana by 20 points in the November election and 60 percent of the state’s electorate voted for one of the Republican Senate candidates in the state’s jungle primary.
