Sancho reveals reason for committing to Dortmund amid Man City return rumours

Posted on March 1, 2019

The teenagfwinger has put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at the Bundesliga leaders until 2022

England starlet Jadon Sancho has explained the reasoning behind committing his future to Borussia Dortmund amid speculation of a return to Manchester City.

The new Three Lions cap signed a new deal at Dortmund in early October that will keep him with the Bundesliga leaders until 2022.

The 18-year-old has been in fine form so far this season, scoring five goals and laying on eight assists in all competitions despite not being a regular starter for Lucien Favre’s side.

Such performances have seen reports emerge of a potential £100 million ($131.5m) move back to former club Man City, though Pep Guardiola has poured water on those claims.

And Sancho is keen to repay the faith that has been shown in him, insisting he is loving life in Germany.

Speaking to Sport Bild, Sancho explained the reasoning behind his decision to commit his future to the Bundesliga side: “You can see right now, I play a lot here.

“It is important for young players to develop. You never know what will happen in the future, but I’m really happy right now.”

Despite all the speculation regarding Sancho’s future and potential return to England after making his debut for Gareth Southgate’s side against Croatia, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc is confident the youngster will remain at the club for a long time to come.

He said: “I’m pretty sure Jadon will be playing with us for some time.

“We have to live with the consequences of our good performances – especially since our championship title in 2011. We know that our players arouse the desires of clubs that have an even greater appeal than we do and we try to deal with this as well as possible.”

He added: “I even see it as a bit positive. It shows that BVB is doing a good job. It would be worse if nobody cared about our players.”

Dortmund have made an unbeaten start to their Bundesliga campaign, sitting two points clear of second-placed Bayern Munich after nine matches. The two sides meet at the Westfalenstadion on November 10.
