MOORHEAD, Minn. — With its regular season complete, the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team now turns its attention to the postseason when it compete at the Super Regional III on Sunday at Young Arena in Waterloo, Iowa.
MSUM is one of 13 teams to compete at the event, which begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday. The top four individuals from each weight class qualify for the national meet.
A year ago, two Dragons qualified for the nationals — Corey Ulmer and Jacob Bennett. Ulmer wrapped up his MSUM career last spring while Bennett returns for another attempt at the nationals.
The Dragons finished 8-8 during the dual season, including 3-5 in the rugged NSIC. MSUM is led by junior Angel Vega, who was 22-11 at 141 pounds and leads the team in wins. Sophomore Philippe Walker also has been solid all year with an 18-9 mark at 133 pounds, while junior Casey Williams is 15-6 at 149. Sophomore Gerad Fugleberg also has been steady with a 17-13 mark at 285 pounds.
Teams competing in the regional include MSUM, Augustana, Mary, Maryville, Minnesota State, Newman, Northern State, Southwest MInnesota State, Minot State, St. Cloud State, Upper Iowa, Indianapolis and Wisconsin-Parkside.
