Lanny Poffo, who was known as the Genius and “Leaping” Lanny Poffo during his WWF run, and being the brother to “Mach Man” Randy Savage, announced today that his mother Judith Poffo passed away at the age of 90.
Judith was married to long time wrestler Angelo Poffo and mother to Randy and Lanny. While her husband and sons all were in the business, Judith stayed behind the scenes. She did appear for interviews for the WWF’s biography of Randy and also when Lanny inducted the “Macho Man” into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015. Originally from the Midwest, Judith lived in Florida in recent years along with her late husband and both sons. Although the men in her life were all wrestlers, there was no doubt she was the leader of the family.
“She took care of all of us, worried about us and made sure we stayed in line,” son Lanny Poffo, said. “She was in charge.”
Judith is credited with coming up with the “Macho Man” moniker that would lead to Randy’s rise in fame. The story was she read an article in Reader’s Digest about the famous Villiage People song’s title becoming a hot catchphrase, she suggested it to her son for his wrestling presentation.
