Catalan business leaders have called for an urgent resolution to the independence crisis ahead of a crucial session to seat a new regional parliament which threatens to unleash renewed political turmoil.
As pro-independence parties wrangle over forming a government with many of their senior members in jail, facing charges or overseas, businesses are urging an end to the political conflict that has seen 3000 companies move their fiscal bases out of Catalonia, hit tourism and undermine growth in the powerhouse region.
“What everybody needs is that normality is reestablished,” José Luis Bonet, head of the Catalan cava producer Freixenet, told the Telegraph ahead of Wednesday’s session.
