North and Derry lead Vikings at Ranger Duals
KENOSHA, Wis. – TJ North and Sean Derry each posted 3-0 records, leading Augustana to a 2-1 mark at the Ranger Duals on Saturday. The Vikings dropped their first dual, 28-8, to No. 15 McKendree, before rebounding and taking down No. 10 Indianapolis 38-9 and Findlay 34-9. Augustana now owns a record of 8-4 on the season.
McKendree
TJ North and Sean Derry both collected major decisions at 125 and 184 pounds, respectively. North gave the Vikings a brief 4-0 lead with his 10-2 major decision win, but the Bearcats reeled off six wins before Derry could score again for the Vikings.
McKendree logged four decision wins in their six-bout run, bookended by a major decision at 133 pounds and a pin at 174. Shawn Hatlestad nearly took down eighth-ranked Kyle Williams, but couldn’t break through, losin 3-2 at 149 pounds. Derry broke the Bearcat streak with his 13-4 major decision win at 184 pounds.
The 197-pound bout pitted No. 4 Jayd Docken against fifth-ranked Julian Smith of McKendree. In a tight bout, Docken suffered his first defeat of the season, dropping a 3-2 decision to Smith.
McKendree closed out the scoring with a 7-3 decision win at 285 pounds and won the first of three duals for Augustana, 28-8.

Indianapolis
Augustana logged a pair of pins and TJ North defeated the top-ranked wrestler at 125 pounds in a 38-9 defeat of No. 10 Indianapolis.
In possibly the most-anticipated bout of the day, Augustana’s fifth-ranked North squared off with No. 1 Alex Johns of Indianapolis. The two 125-pound wrestlers didn’t’ disappoint with North edging Johns 3-1, giving the Vikings a 3-0 lead and handing Johns his first Division II loss of the season.
Morgan Engbrecht won by forfeit and Jacob Anderson equaled Engbrecht’s six points with a second-period pin at 141 pounds. At 149 pounds, UIndy finally got on the board when fourth-ranked Cameryn Brady won by decision over Augustana’s Shawn Hatlestad.
Pushing the Viking lead to 21-3, Bradyn Neises received a forfeit win at 157 pounds. The Greyhounds added three more points with a decision victory at 165 pounds, but Augustana countered with Drake Fanslau’s team-leading seventh pin in 1:30.
Sean Derry gave the Vikings their fourth six-point win of the day with an injury default victory at 184 pounds. Jayd Docken turned in a dominating performance at 197 pounds, registering his first tech fall of the year with a 19-3 win.
The Greyhounds won their third bout of the day, an 8-3 decision at 285 pounds, but Augustana’s lead was beyond insurmountable and the Vikings won 38-9.

Findlay
Augustana took eight of the 10 bouts, winning their second dual of the day 34-9 over Findlay. North and Derry each finished with a perfect record on the day, leading the Vikings to their 2-1 record.
North started the Vikings off on the right foot with a 6-1 decision. Engbrecht then posted his second win of the day, pinning his opponent in 3:20 at 133 pounds. Anderson won by forfeit at 141 pounds then Hatlestad pushed the Viking lead to 21-0 with a pin in 1:16 at 149 pounds.
The Augustana lead reached 24-0 when Neises notched a 7-1 decision win at 157 pounds. The Oilers narrowed the gap to 24-9 with a decision win at 165 pounds and a pin by second-ranked Adam Walters at 174.
Derry kept his record clean with a dominating 18-6 major decision win at 184 pounds and the Vikings closed the dual with decision wins by Docken and Lowman, giving Augustana a 34-9 win.
Augustana returns to the road to take on Augsburg, ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division III, and Minnesota State in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference dual on Jan. 24 and 25, respectively.
