In this newest episode of Coach’s Corner, Gopher Wrestling Head Assistant Coach Brandon Eggum recaps Minnesota’s 17-16 victory over No. 6 Penn State last Sunday at Rec Hall in University Park, Pa. While the victory extended the Gophers’ unbeaten streak against Penn State to 13 matches, it also marked the first time a visiting team had defeated the Nittany Lions in Happy Valley since January 2011.
Two key major decisions in the dual’s first four matches – first from No. 4 Nick Dardanes at 141, then No. 1 Dylan Ness at 157 – provided critical bonus points for the Gophers. Match victories by No. 1 Chris Dardanes (133), No. 17 Nick Wanzek (165) and No. 11 Brett Pfarr (184) powered the Gophers to the win.
