MANKATO, Minn. — After five early season tournaments, the Minnesota State wrestling team heads to Bismarck, N.D., on Thursday, where it will face the University of Mary in its first NSIC wrestling dual of the year. Following Thursday’s dual, the team travels to Minot, N.D., for a dual against the Minot State Beavers.
The Mavericks (0-0, 0-0 NSIC) will be competing in their first two overall duals of the season.
The Marauders of the University of Mary (2-5, 0-1 NSIC) enter the dual after falling to Upper Iowa last week by the score of 35-9.
The Beavers of Minot State (3-2, 0-1 NSIC) will square off against the Mavericks following a 39-9 loss to Upper Iowa University last weekend. The Beavers recently picked up a nonconference win against the University of Mary on Dec. 8, where they won by a score of 18-16.
Leading the way for the Mavericks will be Scott VanDeLoo (Sr., 184 lbs.) and Adam Cooling (Jr., 174 lbs.). VanDeLoo will look to keep his undefeated record of 7-0 going after two first-place finishes at the Luther College Open and the Augsburg Open. A season ago, VanDeLoo went 5-3 in dual matches. Cooling is off to a solid start this season, with a record of 12-2 overall. He went 5-2 in duals last season.
