In a rare interview, WWE CEO Vince McMahon floated the possibility of WrestleMania 32 being his son-in-law Triple H’s final Mania as an active wrestler.
“I’m so proud of him, not just the years he’s spent in the ring and I don’t know how many more years that’s going to last. This may be his last WrestleMania. I don’t know. He’s a little long in the tooth as I say to his face and we all laugh about that now because I’m 70 years old,” McMahon told the Orlando Sentinel in an interview promoting WM33 in Orlando.
Triple H is scheduled to defend the WWE World Title against Roman Reigns at WM32. The goal is to make Reigns the next big star for the company, which is why WWE put the title back on Hunter to try to “pass the torch” to Reigns, especially if this is Hunter’s last Mania match.
McMahon also spoke glowingly about Hunter’s work with NXT and the Performance Center trying to re-create a feeder system after WWE went through available top talent.
“Paul (Levesque) is very aggressive. Not outwardly so. When you meet with him and talk with him, it’s like, Wwhat a nice guy.’ But inside, he has that competitive spirit and he’s always reaching for that brass ring. He’s done so well,” McMahon said. “What Paul has done, he’s done an extraordinary job and because of the welcome here in Florida, because of the Performance Center, its world-class qualities, we are able to attract so many more athletes now.”
The interview also closed with Vince talking up Hunter and his daughter, Stephanie McMahon, as carrying on the company’s legacy.
“This is not one person’s business anymore. It started out that way, and there’s a legacy kind of thing where it’s Vince, Vince, Vince. That’s not what’s happening,” McMahon said.
“We talk about Paul and Steph and you can see the evolution of our talent and the whole evolution of our business. One guy started it, yeah, but it’s mammoth now in terms of corporate atmosphere. It’s not one man’s vision. It’s not a guy. If you can take away anything there, it can’t be one guy.”
