Backstage News on Jeff Hardy’s Injury & WWE Status

Posted on July 2, 2020
It was previously reported that SmackDown Tag Team Champion Jeff Hardy suffered a leg injury at The April 20th WWE Live Event in Madison, Wisconsin as SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Hardy Boys defeated The Usos in a Non-Title Match. Jeff Hardy then appeared the next night in Rochester, MN to be in Matt Hardy’s corner for Matt’s win over Jimmy Uso, but Jeff did not get physical and was said to be limping pretty bad. The following night, Jeff Hardy reportedly did not appear in Sioux City as Matt Hardy teamed up with R-Truth to defeat The Good Brothers (Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson) and he was not backstage at this past Tuesday night’s SmackDown LIVE either.
According to Dave Meltzer on a recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Jeff Hardy appears to be suffering from a right knee injury, but the severity of the injury is still unknown. Jeff Hardy has had a bad right knee since his 2015 dirt bike accident and has worked with a torn PCL for the past four years.

Meltzer also noted on a recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio Program that officials will have to make a decision on The SmackDown Tag Team Titles this coming Tuesday night on SmackDown LIVE as there are two versions going around from people close to the situation – one is that Jeff Hardy needs knee surgery and will have to do the title change and the other is that he is just banged up, but they are not sure exactly how bad it is.
It is believed among the people in WWE who need to know Jeff Hardy’s status for storyline purposes that he is scheduled to undergo knee surgery this coming week after SmackDown LIVE. This could be why the injury is being kept a secret. People close to Jeff Hardy are saying that he is definitely injured, but hopefully not too bad and right now Jeff is just playing things safe, according to The Observer.
There is no word yet on if The Hardy Boys will appear on SmackDown LIVE this coming Tuesday night in Columbus, OH, but they could end up doing a title change or an injury angle to write Jeff out.
