RC Cannes and Le Cannet set up all Côte d’Azur final affair for 2014-2015 season.
Champions en titre, RC Cannes went into a trouble and a nail-biting five sets game to achieve their 19th consecutive final of French championship.
By the skin of their teeth, Victoria Ravva and co. managed to bounce back from a 2-0 to squeeze a clear tie-break and get a well deserved golden medal. Despite Myriam Kloster’s amazing blocking game, Faucette and Ravva managed to score together 44 points.
The evolution of the game speaks for itself, it was a thrilling final, more to the excitement of volleyball fans gathered in Halle Carpentier in Paris, who witnessed a great come back of RC Cannes in the fourth set when Le Cannet were leading 21-23.
The Final score of 3-2 (25-23, 25-21, 16-25, 23-15, 10-15), was a victory spiced up, a tailored up especially for iconic Victoria Ravva who announced her ‘retirement’ as a player.
All time RC Cannes captain gave a short statement after the final, tears in her eyes after only two dacades of victories under the colours of Angels.
20th success for RC Cannes and 19th for ‘Vica’, as friends are calling her. ‘Merci, Vica!’ – this was the message a packed Halle Carpentier in Paris was sending Victoria in order to pay her the tribute she deserves for being an exceptional and iconic star and a role model for so many young players.
‘To be honest, I have never cared about being a star. I was never seeking to be loved, in fact, I always tried to get the respect I deserve through my work. But, in the end, looking around me, I have no idea why, but I managed to get the respect and the love of people. It is an amazing feeling. On the other hand, it is surprising as well, as I have never done something particular to achieve all that. I have always tried to be myself, never once trying to build a brand around me. At all costs, it is the result of a good education my parents had offered me.”
This was a short part of Victoria’s statement at the very final of a great career. We are looking forward to see the course of her life now, volleyball is her life, therefore we are sure of seeing more of Vica.
Merci, Vica!
