MIAMI, FL — A Miami Subway worker is out of a job after allegedly grabbing a knife from behind the counter and following a customer out of the restaurant with it. The customer recorded cellphone video of Monday’s incident and claims that the worker was upset over a special request with respect to the way he wanted her to toast his freshly baked Subway bread.
“She didn’t want to obey the request of heating up the person’s sandwich separately from everyone else’s,” Officer Kiara Delva of the Miami Police Department told Patch. “I guess that’s what caused the argument.”
The Subway employee, 29-year-old Chelsea Lloyd, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Miami police. She can be seen on the cellphone video carrying the knife as she stepped outside of the Subway at 105 East Flagler St. in downtown Miami.
At one point, Lloyd can be heard on the video telling the customer she had another job that paid $15 per hour. The employee can also be heard using profanity toward the customer.
In a statement released by Subway, a company spokesperson told Patch: “The safety of all guests is our top priority. The franchisees have told us that the employee has been terminated.”
No one was injured during the incident.
The customer was identifed as Vincente Timiraos. He told WSVN in Miami that he was carrying a gun at the time but chose not to pull it out.
“It was over toasted bread,” Timiraos explained. “I didn’t feel the need to kill someone over toasted bread.”
Timiraos retained Miami Lakes attorney Robert C. Dominguez. The firm told Patch that they expect to file a lawsuit in the case.
