Gonzalo Higuain was absent from a Milan photo shoot on Wednesday amid rumours he will leave to join Chelsea before the close of the January transfer window.
Milan’s players were joined by manager Gennaro Gatusso and new chief executive Ivan Gazidis in a photograph, along with Saudi Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal.
The image was taken ahead of Milan’s clash with Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana, which takes place on Wednesday evening in Jeddah.
The reason for the Argentine’s no-show has not been confirmed, though reports claim he missed the photo shoot due to treatment for a fever.
Higuain is currently on loan at the Rossoneri from Wednesday’s opponents Juve, but he has told Gattuso he wants to cut short his temporary stay amid interest from Chelsea.
The Blues have been heavily linked with Higuain as they seek to replace Alvaro Morata and bolster their attack.
A deal taking Higuian to Stamford Bridge would see the 31-year-old reunite with Maurizio Sarri after the pair worked together at Napoli in the 2015/16 season.
Twitter was awash with speculation, with many believing the striker’s obvious omission is a sign he is heading to Stamford Bridge.
