BOULDER COUNTY, CO — A “delinquent” bear broke into a car on July 4 and took it for a ride, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said. The “four-legged suspect” managed to open the driver’s side door of the unlocked car and got stuck when the door accidentally closed behind it.
The bear then got to work trying to dig its way out of all four doors, destroying the vehicle. While it was moving around, it “butt-shifted” the car into neutral, causing it to roll off the driveway and 100 feet down a hill, the sheriff’s office said.

The car clipped a tree and eventually came to a stop. The bear then finally managed to pop a door open and fled on foot.
The sheriff’s office said it’s a “good reminder to keep your car doors locked, especially in bear country.”
Several bears have been spotted out rummaging through garbage and swimming in local waterways in Boulder County over the past few weeks. Many bears are tranquilized by Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers and moved back into the mountains.
