ORLANDO, FL — An investigation was underway Monday to find out how a woman managed to get past multiple layers of security at Orlando International Airport over the weekend and plop herself into a seat assigned to a ticketed Delta passenger headed to Atlanta.
“Delta representatives asked a female passenger who was sitting in someone else’s seat to produce a boarding pass in which she could not,” an Orlando Police spokesperson said. “Officers asked the passenger for identification and for her boarding pass in which she stated she threw her ticket away and reported she did not have identification.” See also Man Placed On Psychiatric Hold After Chaotic Incident At MIA
The woman verbally identified herself as Sylvia Rictor. She was allowed to leave the airport.
Now officials from the Transportation Security Administration, Orlando International Airport, Orlando Police Department and even the FBI were attempting to figure out how the woman managed to elude all of the security measures in place at Florida’s busiest airport and one of the busiest airports in the nation.
“We are working collaboratively with Orlando Police and TSA on this matter,” FBI spokeswoman Andrea Aprea said.
A TSA spokesperson confirmed the woman passed through screening at a TSA checkpoint. “We are working with law enforcement to investigate the incident at the plane and will not be providing any additional information at this time,” the spokesperson told Patch.
The incident happened at 10:24 a.m. Saturday, Orlando Police said. After the woman was removed from the plane, officers escorted her to a shuttle to leave airport property.
Delta issued a statement apologizing to the passengers on the flight for the delay caused by the incident. Security officials required passengers to undergo an additional screening before the flight was allowed to leave.
“Delta is working with local law enforcement and the Transportation Security Administration on their investigation and we are conducting our own review of this as well,” the airline said. “Safety and security is always our top priority.”
