LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oklahoma Christian’s Jaiden Johnson and Rollins’ Ali Shenefield were named 2020 Division II Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their outstanding play during the opening week of the season.
Johnson powered the Eagles to a 4-1 weekend at the Desert Stinger, including wins over three programs that were 2019 NCAA Tournament participants. The junior utility player hit .625 (10-for-16) with two doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI and 11 runs scored. Johnson slugged 1.312, swiped seven bases and recorded a .684 on-base percentage. She set a program record with eight RBI against San Francisco State when she went 4-for-4 with two long balls and three runs scored. The Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week also homered and scored three times against Western Oregon and registered three hits and two runs scored versus Montana State-Billings.
Shenefield shined in her collegiate debut as the rookie hurler tossed a two-hit complete-game shutout against Delta State and capped off the weekend with a no-hitter against West Alabama. The Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week fanned 15 and did not walk a batter in her first start, a 1-0 Tars’ victory over the Lady Statesmen. Shenefield followed her stellar performance by no-hitting the Tigers with three strikeouts and two walks in a 6-1 triumph.
