In a major relief to cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Supreme Court has overturned a lower court order and acquitted him of culpable homicide in the 1988 road rage case.
The court, however, found him guilty of causing injury and imposed a fine of Rs 1000 without any jail term.

This in effect means that despite the conviction, Sidhu can retain his cabinet berth as only any person convicted for two or more years is disqualified as a lawmaker.
