When we think of farmers we imagine them working their fingers to the bone, sowing, ploughing and harvesting crop only to reap a meagre income once the output is sold. Women agricultural labourers are also known to contribute to farming apart from doing household chores.
In Pastapur village of Zaheerabad, women farmers handle heavy tripods, set frames using a viewfinder, use headphones to check sound and shoot programmes. The Times of India reported that three women farmers Laskhmamma, Narsamma, Mullamma and Manjula are part of an agri-based NGO Deccan Development Society.
They have made close to 500 short films to spread awareness about practices of food sovereignty. Learning how to operate this equipment without any proper guidance or classes was difficult for them initially but today they have become a pro at their job that they have been offered a proper feature film.
