Kvyat kicked out of the points by stewards… again!

Posted on December 1, 2019

Toro Rosso’s Dany Kvyat was hit with post-race penalty by the US Grand Prix stewards that has kicked out of the top ten for the second race in a row.

Kvyat had muscled his way past Racing Point’s Sergio Perez late in the race, pushing the Mexican as he lunged down the inside of COTA’s tight left-hand Turn 15, a move that earned him a tenth-place finish on the road.

However, the stewards frowned upon the maneuver and subsequently investigated the Russian for causing a collision.

The sanction was a 5-second penalty applied right after the finish that dropped Kvyat to P12, with Perez thus grabbing the final point in the race.

Kvyat’s penalty comes just a week after a late lunge at Nico Hulkenberg in the Mexican Grand Prix was also punished by the stewards and cost the Toro Rosso driver a P9 result.

A furious Kvyat took exception with the stewards’ call in Mexico, insisting penalties of the sort were “killing the sport”.

And his immediate post-race reaction in Austin upon learning of the penalty was equally fierce.

“It’s bullshit, it’s unbelievable!,” quipped the Russian, talking to Ziggo Sport.

“I have no words, it’s so stupid. I went to the inside, and he [Perez] closed the door, it’s normal, and then we touched.

“This is unacceptable, really…”
