Frank Lampard will turn to Ashley Cole for help in getting Derby County back to the Premier League.
The two spent many successful years together at Chelsea and Rams’ manager Lampard is set to complete the deal in the next 48 hours, report The Sun.
Cole is a free agent having being released by LA Galaxy and it is understood Lampard’s offer appeals to him most despite the chance to extend his career abroad.
After leaving Stamford Bridge with Lampard in 2014, Cole joined Roma, while Lampard headed to Manchester City and then New York City.
Lampard will push on with the move for the 38-year-old after deciding 21-year-old Max Lowe is not ready for first team action yet.
Lowe will now head back to Aberdeen for a second loan spell and that should also go through quickly.
Derby remain in the hunt for promotion and are currently sixth in the Championship.
And with the side still in the hunt for FA Cup glory having beaten Premier League side Southampton, Cole’s experience – he’s won it seven times – will be invaluable, while The Sun also say his terms will not break the bank.
