Alyssa Milano Prompts #MeToo Twitter Movement to Raise Awareness of Widespread Sexual Harassment

Posted on November 11, 2019

Following the publication of numerous allegations of sexual misconduct against film producer Harvey Weinstein, Alyssa Milano is keeping the momentum going and showing her support for victims of sexual assault and harassment with a powerful social media movement.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday night, the Charmed actress—who co-starred on the popular show alongside Rose McGowan, one of the first to share her allegations of sexual assault against Weinstein—urged other women to let themselves to be heard and show the magnitude of sexual harassment by sharing the phrase “Me too.”

Revealing that she got the idea from a friend, the star was inundated with thousands of responses after asking her Twitter followers, “If you’ve been sexually harassed or assaulted write ‘me too’ as a reply to this tweet.'”

She continued, “If all the women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote ‘Me too’ as a status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem.”

Gabrielle Union, Anna Paquin, Debra Messing, and Rosario Dawson were among the many people who responded with the phrase, as well as Evan Rachel Wood, who wrote, “Being raped once made it easier to be raped again. I instinctively shut down. My body remembered, so it protected me. I disappeared. #metoo.”
