As the news hit of yet another men’s publication closing down, a new men’s style bible is born in its place. Maxim, the unabashed lad’s must-read for pin-up girls lightly mixed with men’s fashion, sport and news this week confirmed the steep drop in circulation and sales led to it’s folding. New on the shelves is Geil Magazine, a Berlin-based lifestyle publication aimed at the metrosexual male, hoping to lure some of the readers seeking more international fashion over scantily dressed girls and fast cars.
Geil’s debut issue features ample fashion stories covering international designers and trends from around the globe. It also covers art, travel, lifestyle and the season’s must-have gadgets and to-do list. We love the enhanced grooming pages which reflect the growing beauty industry for men and it’s refreshing to see a more versatile product range than just your average moisturiser and shaving gel.
Geil, in the German lexicon, translates into “horny”, but is used in a frivolous way. Geil Magazine is about what turns you on, be it music, clothes, cars or scantily clad boys. Perhaps the gay element is a little too evident in its debut issue and not to everone’s taste, however the percentage of fashion and credible styling will surely offer competition to your average men’s style publication.
