Unai Emery will likely be able to select the German playmaker in the Gunners’ next game on October 22 after seeing him rejoin full training
Mesut Ozil has returned to full training with Arsenal after suffering with back spasms, but Petr Cech remains a doubt for their next clash with Leicester City.
Ozil was absent from the Gunners’ fine 5-1 thrashing of Fulham on Sunday because of the issue, as Unai Emery’s men clinched a ninth successive win.
But, following his post-World Cup international retirement, Ozil has not had to travel anywhere with the Germany national team this week, allowing him to concentrate on getting fit.
And he was back in training on Friday, participating fully with the rest of the first-team squad.
Emery had told reporters after a derby date with Fulham: “Yesterday he came in with pain and he cannot train yesterday or play today.”
While Ozil is ready to step back in, Cech – who sustained a hamstring injury against Watford at the end of September – is still a doubt for the visit of Leicester a week on Monday, having initially been ruled out for up to a month.
A statement from Arsenal read at the time of his knock: “Expected to return to full training in three to four weeks.”
A recent resurgence from the Gunners has lifted them into fourth spot in the Premier League table.
They had opened the 2018-19 campaign with back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Chelsea, but are now just two points off that pair and fellow joint-leaders Liverpool.
Welcoming key men back into the fold should help them to maintain momentum as they seek to piece together a push for a return to Champions League competition for next season.
