West Ham United are in talks to sign the ‘new Luis Suarez’ as a replacement for Marko Arnautovic, according to reports.
As talkSPORT revealed on Friday afternoon, the striker has not travelled with the squad to Bournemouth as a lucrative move to Guanghzhou Evergrande looms.
Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini is understandably keen to bring in a replacement should the Austrian depart this month and it appears he has found his man.
Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol revealed the east Londoners are in talks with a 22-year-old striker who is currently wreaking havoc upon LaLiga defences.
“West Ham have been in talks with Celta Vigo about signing Maxi Gomez,” Solhekol declared on Friday.
“And we are told today by somebody who is in those talks that the talks are progressing very, very well.
“What do we know about Maxi Gomez? Well, one source has described him as ‘the new Luis Suarez’.
“He is Uruguayan, he plays for Celta Vigo, he has scored a lot of goals this season.
“He is supposed to be clinical, very strong, good target man, very fast.
“We are being told he is potentially a £100million player.”
Gomez made his debut for Defensor Sporting in his native Uruguay in 2015 and has gone from strength to strength.
Celta snapped him up for less than £5million in the summer of 2017 and he has scored at an incredible rate ever since, bagging nine goals in 17 league appearances so far this season.
