Hernandez, Davies and Singh hilariously struggle during their Bayern Munich initiation songs

Posted on September 7, 2019

Several new players from the German giants showed that their talents do not lie with a microphone in hand

A few of Bayern Munich’s young stars have proved that musical careers after football are unlikely during singing performances for initiation to the first team ahead of the new Bundesliga season.

The entire first-team squad gathered for a lunch with players expected to get up on the stage and sing a song of their choice, with hilarious results.

World Cup-winning French defender Lucas Hernandez, who joined the Bundesliga champions in club-record €80 million (£68m/$90m) deal  from Atletico Madrid, took on Ritchie Valens’ ‘La Bamba’ to the delight of his teammates.

Eighteen-year-old Canadian wonderkid Alphonso Davies started off strong with Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’, but he struggled to continue his momentum into the chorus.

Davies was brought into Bayern’s first team in January after signing from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps – scoring one goal in six Bundesliga appearances.

New Zealand talent Sarpreet Singh continued his incredible journey with the German giants, singing Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’ when it was his turn to get up on stage

The 20-year-old got went live in front of his illustrious teammates and belted out the famous Canadian artist’s song  – with the room cheering and laughing at his performance.

Vision of the attacking midfielder singing was uploaded to the Instagram story of veteran defender Jerome Boateng.

Singh’s rise to become part of one of Europe’s biggest teams has been rapid, having been playing in the A-League for Wellington Phoenix only four months ago.

He was originally signed as developing talent for Bayern Munich II in the third division of German football on a three-year deal, but quickly impressed coach Niko Kovac in training.

The Croatian tactician decided to give Singh an opportunity in the pre-season friendlies, with the Kiwi playing in every warm-up match except the Super Cup defeat against Borussia Dortmund.

He came up against the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid, Milan, Fenerbahce and Tottenham – and scored a penalty in the shootout loss against Spurs.

Singh scored his first goal for the club – the 15th of the match for Bayern – in a 23-0 friendly rout against amatuer side FC Rottach-Egern on Thursday.

Kovac spoke about the talented playmaker prior to the Super Cup, explaining that Singh and team-mate Davies have been fast-tracked to the first team.

“He’s a good catch,” Kovac said.

“He was planned for the second team but he’s shown that he’s already a long way ahead of many others.

“I’m very pleased for him and pleasantly surprised.

“With him and Alphonso Davies, you can see they are much further ahead of the others in the second team.”

Bayern’s competitive matches begin on Monday as they travel to Energie Cottbus in the first round of the DFB Pokal before their Bundesliga campaign begins on Friday at home against Hertha Berlin.
