The community cookbook was Markle’s first solo project as a royal, and, according to Kensington Palace, her visit this morning was to see the impact of the money raised.
People reports that the cookbook sold “more than 40,000 copies in U.K,” as well as even more internationally, and “raised $270,000 so far in the seven weeks since it went on sale.” With the funds from the book, the community kitchen, which helps survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire, has been completely renovated, and is now able to stay open seven days a week, per Kensington Palace’s report.
The Duchess was given the opportunity to test out the new facility, trading in her stylish coat for an apron once inside, where she helped prepare 200 meals for the community.
