Kevin Prince-Boateng is closing in on a surprise loan move to Barcelona from Italian side Sassuolo.
The former Tottenham and Portsmouth midfielder will join the Catalan giants initially on loan, for a fee believed to be in the region of £1.75m.
Should they want to make the deal permanent they will have an option to buy the 31-year-old for £7m in the summer.
Sassuolo general director Giovanni Carnevali is expected to fly to Barcelona on Monday to conclude the formalities of the deal.
Boateng only joined Sassuolo over the summer, and has scored four goals in 13 appearances to date.
His previous spell in La Liga was a successful one with Las Palmas in the 2016/17 campaign.
The quick and dynamic forward hit double figures in his 28 appearances for the Spanish outfit.
Boateng’s colourful career has already seen him play for the likes of Hertha Berlin, Borussia Dortmund, Schalke and AC Milan.
