Alvaro Morata has completed a move to Atletico Madrid from Chelsea, according to reports.
And Gonzalo Higuain has been left out of Gennaro Gattuso’s AC Milan squad to face Genoa on Monday as the rumours linking the striker with a move to Stamford Bridge gather momentum.
Morata has endured a torrid 12 months in west London after his move from Real Madrid in the summer of 2017, with the goals drying up for the 25-year-old.
Maurizio Sarri is keen to bring in Higuain in on loan until the end of the season having worked with the striker at Napoli while he was boss.
According to Nicolo Schira of Gazzetto dello Sport, the Spain international will return to Madrid on loan and Diego Simeone will have an option to buy the striker for €55million (£48.55million) at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso confirmed Higuain was not in his squad for the Serie A clash with Genoa on Monday as negotiations continue.
Gattuso said: “I want to be honest with you all. We had a poor training session today due to all these rumours. We spoke after the training session and I did not consider him ready for this game.
“I accept his decision. Surely he could have done more and maybe we could have helped him fit in better.
“Right now we have to work with professionalism and determination, all these rumours have not helped us lately and we have to look ahead.”
Blues boss Maurizio Sarri launched an extraordinary rant at his players after slipping to a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday night.
Chelsea looked entirely incapable of breaking down a Gunners side who have conceded 32 times this season.
Olivier Giroud has also struggled to score goals this season and Eden Hazard has often been deployed as a false nine.
