Tottenham forward Heung-min Son starred in his first outing of the Asian Cup as South Korea beat China 2-0 to progress to the next round of the tournament.
The pacey winger, who captained the side, won a penalty and set up the second goal as his nation breezed to victory.
Just three days after playing in Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat by Manchester United, Son was back in action after linking up with his national side for their final group match.
The forward was tripped in the area in the first half to allow Ui-jo Hwang to open the scoring.
Then, shortly after half-time, Son’s corner was headed in at the near post by Min-jae Kim.
Tottenham, who have lost Harry Kane until March due to an ankle injury, could also be without Son for up to four games if South Korea reach the final.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were dealt another major blow on Wednesday as Moussa Sissoko was ruled out for a month with a groin strain.
The Argentine has a paper thin squad, but is not expected to delve into their market to add reinforcements to his squad.
