In one of the most shocking events in recent French footballing history, Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa last night announced his immediate resignation from OM following a 0-1 home defeat to Caen.
Bielsa had the following to say to the media as he announced his resignation:
“I have just left my position as the manager of Marseille. My work here is done, I am going to go back to my home country. I put everything I had into this team. I am not leaving here to go somewhere else.”
La Provence published further quotes from Marcelo Bielsa in this morning’s paper from the Argentinian’s letter of resignation:

“As you know, I turned down several major offers because I wanted to stay at Marseille. I don’t regret it, I did it with a lot of enthusiasm as I was very committed to this project. I adapted to the constant changes on a footballing front, but after three months of discussions and two days before the start of the competitive games, I cannot accept the situation of instability that was generated by them, wanting to change the contract. My position is to no longer continue working with you and the decision is final. Working together requires a minimum level of confidence in each other, that we no longer have. I would like to thank you for thinking of me as coach of Olympique de Marseille. I worked with great footballers and I got to make the most of the unforgettable Vélodrome and the fans.”
