French winger Florian Thauvin has joined Newcastle United today after successfully undergoing a medical with the Premier League side.
Thauvin has signed either a 5 or 6 year contract with Newcastle, which will see him earn €3m a year.
Marseille have sold the player for €17m plus €3m bonuses.
The legitimacy of the deal is not in danger despite Thauvin refusing to use his current agent to broker the deal. His agent will press forward in a tribunal in the coming months which will see him recoup his commission in what should be a straightforward process, according to journalist Mathieu Grégoire, contacted by Get French Football News.
There is however a separate issue surrounding Florian Thauvin’s image rights which has yet to be settled. Florian Thauvin and Marseille’s lawyers already lost a legal battle for the player’s image rights in 2014. These rights our understood to be held by a third party who used to advise Florian Thauvin.
Thauvin to Newcastle is done, the rest will be sorted out later.
