Lille need money. To answer the question posed in the title in as succinct a fashion as possible.
Club president Michel Seydoux is believed to need to cover a €25m deficit by the time the DNCG inspects the Ligue 1 side’s finances again at the end of the season. In order not to face the type of nightmare that his colleague at Marseille Vincent Labrune was forced to deal with this year when he was forced to raise capital in a hurry upon the opening of the summer transfer window with the deadline of the end of June set by the DNCG for him to do so, essentially making bad deals in the process, Seydoux will likely look to find a suitor for Boufal this month and then demand that the player be loaned back until the end of the season.
Lille currently value Boufal at €30m plus bonuses, which would more than cover the deficit that LOSC will be required to. Inter Milan are huge fans of the player, as are Tottenham and PSG.
Certainly an individual to keep an eye on in terms of transfer activity next month.
