Create Your Personal Mantra Guide

Posted on November 24, 2024

A personal mantra is a set of prayers or intentions you would like to manifest in the form of healing, gaining success, relieving anxiety, building confidence, growing compassion, and any personal goals you are actively working towards.

These personal affirmations can help you to maintain focus on your goals. When you set your intentions, revisiting them is paramount to your success.

Two simple ways to succeed is to write out your mantras, hang up a list, and read them aloud each day in the morning and at night. Praying or chanting your mantras in the traditional way with your mala is a great way to be in harmony as well.

Select Your Words, Carefully

For this guide you will create 4 mantras, to begin you want to come up with 5 to 10 words to get the creative energy flowing, add more when you are ready.

Think of positive words that have significant meaning for yourself and your goals then write these words down and be as creative as you like in arranging their order. Be careful in all things you think and do, for what you think, you become. This is the motto for building your personal mantra.

Add Positive Affirmations

Once you have a list of words in a separate list jot down some affirmation starters such as “I am…” or “I will…” or “I feel” etc. Stay in the positive by using phrases like “I am at peace” instead of “I want to be at peace”. You must believe in and affirm your words when you say the mantra.

Now take your list of words and mix them with your affirmation starters, these will become your personal mantras.

Closing Prayer of Thanks

In addition to your mantras, you want to create a closing prayer of thanks. Some examples are:

  • “Om Shanti Shanti Shanti” – the starting of Om followed by peace of mind, peace of body, and peace of speech.
  • “Every day in every way I’m getting better and better.” – Laura Silva
  • “I change my thoughts, I change my world.” – Norman Vincent Peal
  • “Om” Sanskrit meaning “It Is” or “To Become” a most sacred mantra the vibration of the universal consciousness.
  • “and so it is!”
  • “For the highest good of all, the world, and the universe.”

Next, you will put your mantras to work.

Use Mala Beads to Count Mantra

Mala beads are a great tool to keep track of how many mantras you will chant or repeat, one for each bead. If your mala has 108 beads, simply repeat your 4 mantras one after the other consecutively with each bead until you reach the guru or end bead. The goal is to reach 108 repetitions around the loop of beads. Once you’ve repeated your mantras and reach the guru bead say your closing prayer.

If you have a mala that has 3 marker beads separating the 27 beads this will allow the practice to flow without having to keep track of the actual repetitions. Your mantras can be chanted 27 times each for a total of 108. When you reach the marker or guru, you know instinctively how many mantras you have said.

  • Hold the mala in your hand.
  • Move it bead by bead with the thumb and middle finger as you repeat your mantras.
  • Take a moment to pause between recitations to be in a moment of silence.
  • When you have circled the loop you may opt to start again.
  • Tradition describes that we never cross over the guru bead, but instead turn the mala around and count in the opposite direction.

Living With Affirmation

Praying and chanting your mantra brings alignment with the vibration of the universe and its harmony. Repeating the words with emotion helps the manifesting process.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler. ~ Henry David Thoreau

When you wake up each morning, reaffirm your intention, read over your personal mantras. Remind yourself to embrace kindness and compassion while letting go of the ego, selfishness, negative thoughts, and confusion. Living with the affirmation, you become the affirmation.
