Nice are ready to test the resolve of Rangers by tabling a £8million bid for Alfredo Morelos, according to reports.
Morelos, 22, has been a stand-out performer for the Gers this season, scoring 20 goals in 35 appearances.
The Daily Record claim his form has alerted Nice boss Patrick Vieira who wants to bolster his attack with Mario Balotelli on the verge of leaving.
Steven Gerrard said interested clubs would be told where to go if they enquired and recently revealed he had been given assurances his star asset would not be sold this month given the club are in the midst of a title race.
The Liverpool legend insisted he would “fall out with people” if the club didn’t stand by their word and cashed in on Morelos.
However, HJK Helsinki boss Mika Lehkosuo believes his former striker is ready for bigger things.
“Alfredo is ready for bigger things if he wants. It depends on what he wants to do, but he is ready,” he said.
“He could play in England, but it is up to him what he wants to do. He can go to the very top of the game if he wants to.
“He has improved a lot in the two years since he moved to Rangers.
“He has learned to mature as he was young when he was with us.”
Gerrard’s men are level on points with arch rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
