Harry Potter’s new club announced as he’s set for midfield switch

Posted on November 5, 2024

Western Force have announced the signing of exciting wing Harry Potter, who arrives at the Super Rugby Pacific team after leaving Leicester Tigers.

Potter signs for the Perth outfit through to 2025 and his return to Australia was largely expected, with rumours he could soon play for the Wallabies.

The 25-year-old was a huge success at Premiership team Leicester Tigers and played for them 67 times, putting in consistent showings in that time.

Wallabies on the cards?

While he was born in Wimbledon, England, Potter was raised in Melbourne, Australia and the finisher is therefore eligible to play for both countries.

Potter had a brief spell with the Rebels in 2020 before heading to England’s top division and he admits he can’t wait to play in Super Rugby Pacific.

“The way we played rugby at Leicester was great and I learnt a lot, it suited me in many ways, but now I need a new challenge to what the Northern Hemisphere offers,” Potter said.

“I was in Super Rugby for such a short time, so it’s always been my goal to return and make my Super Rugby debut. I am looking forward to the opportunity to learn new skill sets and will embrace the differences rugby in Australia provides.

“Simon Cron is an inspiring head coach, and the club is undoubtedly heading in the right direction. There have been some exciting signings, and I feel there is a positive buzz around the Western Force. The club is moving into an era that I am excited to be a part of.

“I’ve spoken to Simon [Cron] about playing a bit more at #13, so I am really looking forward to sinking my teeth into that possibility. I also want to play more attacking footy, and the Force will allow that and progress that avenue of my game.”

The change of lifestyle from Leicester to Perth clearly excites Potter, who admits he can’t wait to reconnect and embrace life in the West of the country.

“Perth is certainly going to be a welcomed change, I am looking forward to coming back to Australia and living by the beach and being back in the sun,” Potter said.

“I lived with Tom Horton over here in Leicester, I also know Henry Robertson from back in Sydney so it will be great to catch up with those guys again.”

Impressive outside back

General Manager of Rugby Matt Hodgson said: “Having Potter return to Australia is a big positive for rugby and retaining Australian eligible players is important for the game across many areas.

“Potter is an impressive outside back that has proven his ability and consistency in big moments, making him a real asset to our squad.

“Potter is hungry for the opportunity to make his Super Rugby debut and progress his game to the next level. His experience, passion and work ethic are the type of players Cron and the coaching staff are attracting to become a leading rugby club.

“It will be great to have him arrive in Perth in the coming weeks and get stuck into pre-season ahead of our spring series against the Cheetahs in September.”
