Sunderland defender Lamine Koné has this evening completed a season-loan move to RC Strasbourg after two and a half tumultuous years on Wearside.
The Ivorian international-who began his career at Ligue 2 side Châteauroux, followed by six years at Lorient- made 69 appearances in total for Sunderland, scoring 3 goals.
Despite a troubled spell at The Stadium of Light in which he experienced successive relegations in 2017 and 2018, Koné was– only two years ago- the subject of an £18m bid from Everton, which was eventually rejected by Sunderland.
Koné expressed his delight in sealing the loan move to the Stade de la Meinau : “I am very happy to come to Strasbourg in Ligue 1…I was seduced by the enthusiastic speech of the coach, Thierry Laurey. I also know that there is an incredible atmonsphere at the Meinau stadium. I cannot wait to start here”.
