Speaking to L’Équipe, 33-year-old Angers central midfielder Thomas Mangani discussed his current contract situation, with the player’s existing deal expiring in June.
After 5 years with Angers, you are coming to the end of your contract. How are you dealing with this situation?
Quite well. My representatives have already begun to speak with Angers and other clubs. The stoppage of Ligue 1 have made things unclear, because, with 10 games left, we enter the period where things get decided, where clubs look toward next season. Now, everything is on standby. Everyone is waiting for post-quarantine and for the league to get going again. With the experience, at 32, I think one deals with this situation more calmly than someone at 22. I am not thinking too much about what’s next. I mainly focused on being excited for the season to get going again.
Do you want to stay at Angers?
For the moment I am happy with my season. Being a free agent, I know that clubs are looking for experienced players at good prices. I am attached to Angers, to what I have gone through with the club for the last 5 years. But I am not closed off to interesting challenges: other nice projects could present themselves.
In France or abroad?
I will prioritise France. I have already rejected opportunities abroad and then, I feel good in Ligue 1. The family aspect will also enter my decision-making, but the sporting project will be pivotal because I want to live great moments in the years that await me. I have been lucky to experience seasons filled with 30 or more appearances. I want that to last. 32 is young, I still have time.
