L’Équipe report that Ligue 1 side Rennes, through President Nicolas Holveck and Sporting Director Florian Maurice, have begun the search for a new manager following the resignation of Julien Stéphan over the weekend.
For the Wednesday fixture vs Lyon, Philippe Bizeul will be managing the 1st team in the interim, but the club is actively searching for a new coach. The board initially tried to convince Stéphan to stay, but failed to do so, and so began looking for a new coach on Sunday. Conversations were initiated with Jocelyn Gourvennec and Bruno Genesio, both managers currently without clubs.
Gourvennec has been our of coaching since leaving Guingamp in May 2019. Genesio has been on the market for just a couple of months after an experience with Beijing Guoan. Rennes Sporting Director Florian Maurice worked closely with Genesio at Lyon.
