Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti was the most blunt in his post-match reaction, as the 3-1 defeat saw the Parisian delegation complain of the referee’s perceived decisions against them.
His words transcribed in L’Équipe, the Italian notably lamented the lack of a yellow card given to Dennis Appiah for a foul on Kylian Mbappé resulting in a penalty.
“How is it possible that we get ten yellow cards and we can’t even talk to the referee? He’s the only referee in the world who does things like that.”
“Usually a penalty is a yellow card, and in this case it would be a red card. How can you not give a yellow card? I think the referees need to take on their responsibilities because in this case we were s**t on by the refereeing.”
